Remedial Massage

Research has shown that massage gives effective relief for headaches, neck pain, back pain, accidental and sports injury, chronic fatigue, stress, depression and improves general wellbeing. The massage therapists at at our centre are highly trained and have an excellent understanding of anatomy and physiology. They will adapt the techniques they use to best address your individual needs.

What can you expect?

Prior to your treatment our massage therapists will talk through your problem areas and discuss how long you have been affected. They will ask you a few general questions regarding your current condition and your health history and they will look, and listen, for clues in order to provide an effective treatment plan, which seeks to treat the original biomechanical dysfunction, to aid in healing the cause of the disorder, as well as the symptoms.

This is your opportunity to inform the therapist of your expectations or of any specific requirements you may have. You are also encouraged to ask questions in relation to your condition or the treatment during this time.

The massage therapists at this centre are highly trained and have an excellent understanding of anatomy and physiology. They will adapt the techniques they use to best address your individual needs. You may have an injury or painful point that needs work; however, your therapist may asses that you need work on other areas in order to achieve the most effective outcome for your individual complaint or injury. Remedial massage aims to correct restore balance.

The techniques may be gentle or firm, deep or shallow, depending on what the condition requires. Please communicate with your therapist if you feel that the pressure applied is too firm or too light or if you start feeling cold etc.

Sometimes massage can cause slight discomfort if you have tender or tense muscles. You may also feel a little tenderness a day or so later. To ease these symptoms it is also advised that you keep up your water intake.

Length of appointment

  • 1/2 Hour Massage Appointments

Allow time to have your back and neck massaged or to have a specific injury treated, such as a arm, knee or shoulder.

  • 1 Hour Massage Appointments

Generally covers your back, neck, arms and legs or allows for more specific work on an injured area.

  • 1 1/2 to 2 Hour Appointments

Lymphatic drainage requires this length of appointment for a complete treatment.

Different modalities

Remedial Massage - A therapeutic massage is for the treatment of various injuries, maintenance for active people, and postural alignment problems. Remedial massage combines a number of different techniques including; massage, trigger points, myofascial release and lymphatic drainage techniques to work on damaged or sore muscles, soft tissue or joints.

Swedish Massage - A gentle massage using light pressure to stimulate relaxation and stress relief.

Sports Massage - A massage used as pre-event and post-event treatment and for the recovery of sports and accidental injury.

Deep Tissue Massage - A massage using firm deep pressure to lengthen shortened muscle fibres and to aid in optimal muscular function.

Trigger Point Therapy - A technique using applied pressure to specific areas of tense muscles to relieve spasm and referred pain.

Pre and Post Natal Massage - A massage specifically designed to relieve back and neck pain and to promote healthy circulation during pregnancy. Also aids pain and stress relief for nursing mothers.

Reflexology – Is the practice of using acupressure and massage techniques on the feet or hands to stimulate a response in other body parts. This process balances energy flow around the body prompting its natural healing processes. Studies have shown Reflexology to be beneficial for many health problems and that it can reduce stress and related problems.

Lymphatic Drainage - A gentle 1½ hour treatment that encourages the lymphatic system to function efficiently. It is especially effective in removing toxins and swelling in post-operative or post-injury cases.

How to get the most out of your massage

  • Please note that if you have a serious or chronic illness you will need to consult with your Medical Practitioner prior to having a massage.
  • Hydration is important. We suggest you drink water before and after your massage.
  • We appreciate you showing before your massage.
  • Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing that will keep you warm after the massage.
  • Plan to take a little time to relax after your massage to enjoy the results.
  • For your first massage appointment we book a 1 hour session so that we can perform a comprehensive assessment and treatment of your condition.
